ANHEUSER BUSCH ST. LOIS MO. NEON SIGN
Sunbeam Bread Sign...Dated 11-59
Miss Saylor's Unusual Chocolates Ad Sign 1920's

I'm not an art expert, but I believe this is silkscreen on heavy cardboard as opposed to a printed sign. The artist's name is Leopold Krumel, a 'listed' artist who worked in the Alameda CA area in the 20's & 30's.
The condition is amazing given the 80-odd years on this earth. The colors couldn't be more vibrant. The sign was uncovered in the basement of a graphic designer and the sign was protected only by being in a pile and undisturbed for many, many years. The size is approximately 37" tall by 20" wide.
The one problem is that when it was uncovered, the finders' hands were dirty and that transferred onto the gold edges of the the sign. Anyone have any suggestions on how one might remove them? Also, any information on the artist would be greatly appreciated.
Selz Shoes Flange Sign

I recently got this old Selz Shoes sign. I collect alot of shoe and foot related items and this fit right in. I have hung it in my physical therapy office at the door that goes into our orthotic lab. Dont know alot about the sign itself but found out alot about Selz shoes. They went out of business in 1929 so guess the sign is 1920s? It is a double sided flange sign. The following is from a website about history of Elgin Illinois where the Selz shoe factory was located.
Originally a Chicago firm, George Ludlow moved his shoe factory to Elgin through an offer from the Elgin Improvement Company. The offer was for a building and the land that it sat on. Ludlow was promised 20 percent interest in the building and property for every consecutive year that he employed 350 workers.
Employment would reach 370 by 1891. Employees worked a 10 hour day, six days a week. By 1896, the plant began making women's shoes under contract for Selz-Schwab & Company of Chicago. By the 1920’s, the plant would produce 2,000 pairs of women's shoes daily.
While shoes are no longer produced in this building, it still stands today. The Selz-Schwab Shoe Factory closed in 1929, but the building would later become the home of a manufacturer of women's' dresses, a neon sign factory, an indoor miniature golf course and finally one of the headquarters for the State of Illinois highway sign shops. Six painters created the route signs for the primary roads in eight Illinois counties. Today, The Shoe Factory is a series of condominiums.
