This was George Rutledge at 302 Broadway NY before he moved to Mt. Claire NJ in 1886. The sign is about 1877 and the painting a few years later. I believe the sign belonged to Mr. J.B.M.Kehlor of St. Louis, MO
The sign faced the public from the office and the painting faced inwards of the office. A private collector owns it now.
